An American girl has been sitting in jail in Italy, appealing a sentence in a crime she says she did not commit. Amanda Knox, now 24, was studying abroad in Italy in 2007. Amanda Knox was convicted on charges of murder and sexual assault on December 4, 2009. Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison. Knox’s boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito was convicted on the same charges and is serving 25 years. Both Knox and Sollecito appealed the court decisions in April 2010. The appeals case was opened on December 11, 2010 and the court case continued until October 2011.
